Besides the recent Hen-Harriers i have also been working on Rough-legged Buzzards at and around the same site. Here's one i got today during a short visit down there.

I think that fill flash would have ruined the backlight effect and therefor i did not use it in this case.
On my screen the darker tones are all open enough but working on an Apple screen i know they tend to be bit lighter then PC screens so that might be the cause for that if you would be working on a PC.
Being Dutch my English grammar is not the best so can't really answer your other question..
I like the composition and the frontal look of the bird. With the light coming from behind, I would also prefer a bit more fill light on the bird. Maybe some dodge and burn would do the trick. Otherwise great image.
I guess Peter means to say "where is there", and forgot the "w". Nothing wrong with your grammar!

This was shot in The Netherlands in the provence called Flevoland.
These are very scarse in our country but the cold winters up north have given us an influx of these (still no enormous numbers..) so happy to be able to shoot these.
Very nicely done on all counts. In a perfect world the bird would have been looking right at you. The BKGR and the backlight are very nice.
