my husband decided to take the splurge and found a new camera for us to learn.

hadn't really gotten to try it out much before today and then I messed up and forgot to put the tripod foot on the 400mm lens, so it was hand hold only. I think i need to start lifting weights to get better at holding the big lens still.....

the guy in front isn't really in focus, but I like the picture anyway. I think i'm going to love the new camera, but i'm seeing a learning curve.

    canon 1d mkIV, 400mm f/4 DO + 1.4x tc at 560mm, 1/2500 sec at f/7.1, 0EV, aperture priority, hand held.

significant crop in LR and a little exposure added (need more practice reading the blinkies/histogram)
canvas added on left and above, background blurred and birds sharpened and S&H (a 2nd pass of sharpening on head/bill of bird on left)

    appreciate any c &c
    thanks for looking.

Pat, good action with both birds and the water droplets and the right bird's toe drag. I like the reflections of the water on the wings. Increased DOF would have been nice, but still very nice photo.

Great action Pat. Love the balance of the image. Head angles are pretty well perfect considering all this action that is happening. Have a go at a small CCW rotation to make the water level.

I think you're going to love the new body & lens, Pat.

I really like the feet on both avocets, and HA is nearly perfect for such a frenzied scene (this was during the little feeding/chase frenzy shortly before I left, right?).

I love the sense of chaotic movement. Yet, you can see everything so clearly! Wonderful shot.
