Hey Bill. I like the way the upsweep of the branches in the lower right is followed by the position of the bird taking off. If I had one nit it would be a little halo around the branch in his mouth and the front leg, possibly from sharpening. I've never seen one with those beautiful green lores -- they all seem to be yellow around here.
Thanks Tom and Ian. Ian, it is a sharpening halo, and I noiced ut as well once I posted the image. What seemed odd was that it only showed up there. I could fix it. The green lores are exhibited by great egrets during the breeding season, and even during this time period not all great egrets change from the characteristic yellow to green. I assume because they are not all breeding.
High Island, where the image was taken, is a rookery, and all the great egrets have green lores at this point. It is early in the breeding cycle, some preliminary nest building etc. In the coming weeks things will heat up considerably. regards~Bill
Bill, beautiful wings and tail on him - the bg does pull the eye away from him a bit, don't know if you could blur it a little more? beautiful green on his face - look forward to seeing more as things heat up!
