I love portraits like this. Well done Eric. The eyes are fantastic. I would do a couple of things. First I'd take a bit of room off the left and second I would tone down the sharpening a little. It's close as is, and very sharp, but the sharpening has brought out some noise (notice the eye and the bill tip). You could soften that noise up with a blur brush set small enough that you can blur the noise without blurring detail at contours. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks for the comments John. What would you suggest then, to tone down the sharpening a bit or leave it as is and use a blur brush to remove the noise instead? I think I tend to overdo the use of USM.
Nice extreme close up, Eric. The upper portion of the white check is a little hot. This would be a case where I would try cloning in some of the lower cheek detail and blending it. Sometimes I good good results with this. I did a quick try at it, see what you think.
