Nice work Dumay. I would hit it with a touch more sharpening.

What a beautiful face and pose, obviously not yet involved in family squabbles.

For me it is a little too light, perhaps a boost in contrast or sharpening may work.

Dumay - a very expressive face. I like the dappled light too. Some good suggestions above.

Hi Dumay, repost looks pretty good, and you used good dof and techs to capture this wistful portrait. Nicely done

I think sometimes the sharpening is a little taste as well, because I think the original was sharpened nicely and the re-post looks to be just a smidgen over-sharpened. For me, I think over-sharpening on fur covered animals is more apparent than say feathered or skin covered animals. I like it as originally posted.

Good detail here. I am sure you got quite a few keepers from this sighting.

Beautiful portrait showing an as yet unblemished face. Initial sharpening looked pretty good to me.

I am also having lots of problems with my posted images but I do know that my monitor is at the end of its life and I'm getting wild variations depending on whether it is cold or hot (i.e. have been using it for a while, or just recently woken it up). Gets a bit critical with final images so perhaps your monitor may need looking at as well?

I'm about to order my new monitor and then I'll have no excuse.

Thanks everyone...I also thought initial sharpening was sufficient....I have a 4 month old 27"inch iMac, I really dont think its the monitor, I thought maybe I changed a setting in my sharpening...I find when I set to where I usually set it it looks perfect but as soon as I apply the setting it reduces it by almost half ( Visually) not numbers on the settings...Has anyone else had this problem?

Dumay, do you mean that when processing you sharpen your image to your satisfaction, then prepare the file to resize for web? And is it at that stage that the visual sharpens reduces? I usually give another round of USM (very slight) when the image has been resized, then post.

    Your monitor should be fine.

Hi Dumay, I really like the image as it has a very clean feel with truck loads of detail & character.

Personally I feel the sharpening is somewhere between the two and you do need to apply some USM after re sizing for web, but the settings will be different from your original file that you applied all you work to, compared to a web image. The settings will be less aggressive so to speak, especially in Radius & Threshold. No that clear on your last reply regarding how you sharpen, but Apple screens are OK, but calibration is an issue as you cannot do as much with it compared to other monitors and personally I have found it a waste of time on the Cinema screens. With a new monitor you should be calibrating every few weeks depending on usage and how far it 'drifts'. You can set a reminder that will pop up to help remind you, if required.

Hilary go for it, you will not look back if you get that monitor, but then you may need to upgrade 'the beast' too, to maximise your investment.

Thanks again...I sharpen the full size image, but as soon as apply the ok to apply the sharpening I am satisfied with it reduces in comparison to the preview still on the full size image...I use smart sharpen option...Sure I will come right, just need to play around a bit more

Dumay I also use "smart sharpen" and run between 1-3 rounds of 125% 0.2px on a "web-sized" image...found that it works very well
