I've just been trying to calibrate my monitors after being dissapointed with some prints and I bought Spyder 3 from BandH. I've gone through it 3 times now, and it keeps getting darker (reduces brightness) and warmer (too much saturation).
I know it's not just my photos as the photos on the forum have the same tints. I'm brand new to this and I have a lovely 26 inch vizio monitor but it had VERY poor abilities to change color, I can only move the contrast to get the brightness where the software wants.
I have a dual setup, and my old Sony 21 inch, which has great detail is worse, much darker and more warm (reds).
Any help will be appreciated as this isn't working but it's probably user error.

I've found I get different results depending on the brightness of the monitor. What is your screen brightness? This page shows a simple way to measure it with your camera: http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/...n_LCD_monitor/
I have found that I need to increase the brightness as the monitor ages, and different monitors may need a different set point for optimum color. So on the photo scale described on the web site, make sure the exposure of a white target is in the range of 1/10 to 1/500 second at ISO 100, f/8. My settings are currently somewhat faster than 1/25 second but I'll have to check to be sure.
Also be sure you do not have a second calibration program running, like adobe gamma.
I just purchased a Spyder3 Elite last night; have been using the Spyder2 Express for quite a few years. In my experience the Datacolor tech support folks are very helpful; I'd try to contact them.
My wife had a calibration glitch recently where she wasn't getting the device flat on the monitor. She had the monitor angled just a tiny bit down in normal use and room light was leaking in. Tipping the monitor slightly up for calibration fixed that. We use a Spyder 3.
