This was taken in Costa Rica. I like the setting in this one. All C&Cs are appreciated.

Jim beautiful looking Tanager on a nice perch. I love the birds colour and it contrast well with most of the pale green background.

I'm not sure about the OOF leaves/branches though. To my eye I'd rather see none or a few more of them around the BG. The one just above the birds head draws my eye.

All that being said I'd still like to have this in my collection.

Jim, this is really nice. I do love the setting and the light is sweet. I do agree with Stephen though that ideally it would be interesting to have more of that foliage. Having that cascade down the right side of the frame would make for an even stronger image, but I also agree with him that's a really nice shot regardless.

Again, that soft light is just fantastic -- congrats on capturing it so well.

    Cheers,

Hi Jim, beautiful bird and as stated gorgeous light. Sharp and great pose. I wonder how this would look in a vertical crop? Great job and congrats looks like a riot.

I'll add my congrats on a great image with good detail and color. Actually I am the odd one out and don't mind the OOF leaves. At first I thought about if I found them distracting, but then I decided the soft feathery appearance was kind of nice.

Great bird and awesome moss-covered neatly curved perch! BG looks good too. I love the comp and subject's relaxed pose but I agree with Stephen and Greg's observations about the foliage above.

    P.S. Great use of flash...

Thanks for the feedback. I added the foilage on the right to give it a more balanced look. What do you think?

The moss on the perch , the striking colour of the bird and the two toned BG makes it a winner !!

I prefer the added vegetation of the repost too...seems more balanced - although I think you meant foliage added on the LEFT! :-)

Wonderful color and detail on the Tanager and I also prefer the second image.

Love the image and prefer the original post. All it needs for perfection is the removal of the o-o-f leaves above the bird's head. Colors, BKGR, and pose are all quite loverly.
