My wife(best spotter on earth) and I went back to Viera Wetlands this afternoon to see if we could find the Least Bittern again. We got some images of it, but I felt the real hero of the day was this male Green Heron. Nikon D3, Nikon 200-400mm lens w/1.7 extender @ 490, ISO-800, f/6.7 @ 1/100sec AF-C, Exp: Av. High overcast . I would appreciate your thoughts.

Very lovely. Sharp, perfect exposure, perfect head angle. I like the reeds in the BKGR. You might do a bit of clean-up on the bill. Later and love, artie

Hi Mac. Glad you and your wife are having a good time at Viera! Great catch with him fully out in the open and turned towards you. My only nit would be the little piece of grass covering just that little bit on him at the bottom, but that could be easily cloned out.

Thank you Nancy we were lucky to find this fellow in the open. The Least Bittern was in the reeds and the pictures were not as good as before. We have been lucky enough to see the Bittern and the Green Heron on three consecutive visits to Viera. We have to go north in a week, but will be down again for two months next Feb and will visit Viera again. Thanks for your thoughts on the image and I will clone out that reed.

I worked on the bill as Artie suggested and removed a reed that was touching the belly of the bird as pointed out by Nancy. I think the overall image has been improved. Thanks to both of you.

Super image. Perfect pose and I like the reedy environment. Your wife found you a prize here, and you did the rest. Great teamwork!
