    Default Collared Aracari

Aracaris and Toucans exhibit very similar behavior when landing on a perch and getting ready to feed. They crane their necks and move their heads slowly back and forth for a good 30-60 seconds before starting to eat. It's a very helpful window of time when trying to photograph them. And the poses can be really cool!

Very nice pose and I like the inclusion of the bottom part of perch. It adds a nice counterweight to bird on top.

I also like the nice use of flash with a tough bird to expose for.

Hey, Doug. Agree with the others -- really nice job catching this pose and exposing well. I love the dark green, mottled background. And I second Dave on the lower part of the perch -- glad we picked that branch as we knew it would add some interest to the compositions. You employed it well here.

    Cheers,

Great species Doug. I never got to see one on a clean perch. Love the nice sharp eye.

I am enjoying this series Doug, birds I don't get to see. Again I like the way you have brought out all the colours in this one, with a very interest(ed)ing pose. Ditto the other comments above.

Beautiful image Doug. Nice pose perch and BG combination.

I love these birds but the ones that I saw in Costa Rica stayed high up in the trees.
