I made the picture of a singing european robin in different orientation, have one in horizontal crop too.
I like the wide open beak in this one but I think the BG is a bit distracting.

Wow, lovely details there. I don't find the background distracting. Just that a bit more contrast between the bird & the background might have made the subject more prominent in the frame...
Where in Germany was this image shot ?

The singing bird is great. Would love to see the perch slimmer and the bird larger in the frame. It looks a bit lost as is. The BKGR is a bit lumpy. Too smooth out the lumpy BKGR select the background with the Magic Wand, expand the selection 1 pixel for a j-peg and 2-4 pixels for a full size TIFF and then do a Gaussian blur on the selected area. (Did I do that right Axel???) later and love, artie

Thank you for good advice; I did use the Gaussian Blur for the background twice, but find it still not really smooth.
In the low res jpeg that I show here, there are some artefacts in the BG which are can not be seen in the original.

@ Kaushik: the picture is made in my backyard, and I live in the southwest of Germany (no really big city around....), not too far from the border to France (also not too far from Karlsruhe / Mannheim / Pirmasens).

Almost. :) Choose the BG with the magic wand tool, invert, then expand 2 pixels, invert again and blur the BG.

Very nice head-on singing pose. The background is a pretty color and will look good once it is smoothed out.
