This image was taken in early February at the International Akan Crane Center in Hokkaido, JP. It's always a pleasure to watch them dance.

I like the pose of the left bird, and the interaction between the two. Awesome job on the exposure. I'm finding the snow horizon line a bit bold cutting the image in 1/2 and strongly across the bird's torsos...perhaps getting down flat on the ground and getting that line much lower (e.g. mid-leg) with those white bodies fully against the darker BG would have worked well.

Still an enjoyable image, and I'm sure it was a pleasure to watch. Did you witness some leaps too?

    Thank you both.

Daniel, I completely agree with you re the background. Unfortunately, the location has a ~4-5ft barrier keeping photographers and spectators away from the Cranes. Hence, getting on the ground is not possible.

The other challenge at this location is to actually get a clean background in the first place due to the number of cranes, swans, pigeons, crows, sparrows etc. So, sometimes you need to take what you get.

Exposure benefited from highlight adjustment in PS. And yes, I got some jump shots as well. Stay tuned. JR

Joerg, thanks for the additional details. Did not realize there was a fence...you work with what you can!

    I will stay tuned...

I had the same thought as Daniel regarding getting lower but now I understand. Love the position of the birds. Looking forward to more.
