    Default Enjoying his mud bath

    Camera : 1D Mk III
    Lens : 600mm f4 IS
    Aperture : f 10
    Shutters :1/320
    Speed :ISO 320
    Compensation : -1/3 stop

These young elephants give you immense joy with their antics and daily chores . A treat to watch them . Again from Dhikala , Corbett NP.

I wish I had some room below to balance the composition , but it was a FF image and I did not want to cut the mud being thrown .

    Cheers,
    Rakesh

A rare case of too much lens, but it is still OK. Always difficult to figure out how high or where the mud is going to go.

You could have upped the ISO to 400 or preferably 800 to get a faster S/S and elinate the slight movement blur.

    Rakesh,

I like the trunk position and look on the face. The whole image can be brought up on tonality. Try a levels adjustment and let some of the highlights clip by sliding the highlight slider left. Also increase brightness somewhat in mid-tones.

beautiful image , Its always difficult choice when you have to make an on the spot decision about cropping... agree with you that the crop does unbalance final image...
be interested in your reasons for your settings choice... as I would have gone with a bigger aperture of f4 to give faster S/s and shallower DOF so the those branches in BKG would be OOF... elephant is parallel to you so plane of focus would have been good...

I like the action in this one Rakesh and if you can do what Robert has suggested then then the image will certainly have more depth to it. Would agree on your self assessment for more canvas below, an issue with fixed lenses.

wonderful moment! agree with your critique and the suggestions above by Robert and Peter.

maybe the balance will be better if you crop some off the LHS and top?

Nice timing on catching the toss of the mud. He looks to be enjoying himself. I like how the more yellowish grasses line up with the elephant and divide the frame.
