...this time a young male...same pride late one afternoon in the Kalahari.

Full frame with a slight crop from the top. We spent almost an hour with them, and when they started to wake I tried various compositions and exposure settings. The sun was setting from behind him just off-camera to the LHS.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
    f8.0 @ 1/500 SS @ ISO-400

Like this one Morkel, but why have you posted so small?

Nice light here, really accentuates the lion's face. The extra light coming through the bottom of the tongue, making it really pink, is quite interesting.

    Thanks folks...

I've always posted portrait shots here on BPN at 700px high as it makes it easier to view the shot on most screens.

Think about it - most shots you post at 1000-1024px wide are about 600-750px high so it sticks to that guideline

    Morkel,

Very interesting light here, in particularthe bottom of the tongue. Must confess that I thought the maximum height was 800, so you are quite close to that here

    Morkel,

With some careful tuning you could lower contrast here and open up the shadows some.

I tried my contrast masking (channels palette selection - gray scale mask on BG copy - Multiply Blending Mode), Levels Adjustment and final tweaking with Shadow/Highlight adjustment and it came out nice.

I like the sidelight and how it makes the canines "glow". BG is a nice match as well.

Morkel - this is one of the better yawn shots I've seen. I like the scrunched up face and the front on look into the mouth. The color looks good too.
