Stunning image Glenn! If anything would like to see some more details on the head.

Loved the composition here and the perch with some moss . Is this perch natural or a setup

    Glenn:

Great timing. From a comp standpoint, wish the leaf was on the other side of the stem to balance out the mass of the birds wings a bit

The head looks too dark, unlit, but I have been fooled by this species before.

Based on the wing sharpness at this shutter speed, is it safe to say you were using flash?

    Cheers

A great capture, but I agree that a "lighter" head would show more detail.

Glenn, great flash work and love the BG. I'm guessing the black feathers are like our black-bellied hummingbird here in Costa Rica. Assuming so, this is probably a very faithful representation of this species. Great wings up pose too and it's cool to see a perched hummer.

Absolutely lovely bird, BG and perch. Love the vertical representation. The moment I saw the picture the first thing I thought was how much I'd like to see just a tad more detail in the head.

I heard great things about your trip.
