    Default Morning Dove

Hello everyone. This is my first post in this section. I know these are common birds but I really liked the perch and the background. Hope you enjoy. C&C welcomed and encouraged.

    Robert:

Welcome to the Avian forum. It is a great place to learn and grow as a bird photographer.

I think mourning doves are lovely, soft, subtle.

Nice background color here, compliments the dove. The perch is pretty good except for the small twig overlapping his toe. I would consider toning down the twig that intersects his shoulder, and some of the other bright twigs below his main perch.

The light angle was well off to your right, causing the rim lighting and some overexposure there. The bulk of the bird is nicely exposed and sharp.

I like the faint diagonal streaks in the upper background, which mirror his bill angle.

Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more. Be sure to feel free to comment on other peoples images, its a great way to learn to look critically at photos, which will help your own images.

    cheers

    Randy

Welcome to BPN. A very pleasing first pose of a common, yet very pretty bird nonetheless. You did well considering the lighting situation. I love how the background matches your subject so well.

    Looking forward to seeing more.

Nice pose and like the soft light effect of the image. As mentioned exposure on the bulk of the bird is great. I might consider a crop from the bottom which will take care of the bright twigs at the bottom.

Welcome to the Avian forum Robert!! Very pleasing despite the light angle. Good comp, and lovely matching tones throughout. Not crazy about the OOF branches at bottom, and Randy has covered the other technicals nicely.

    Looking forward to more!!

P.S. It is Mourning Dove - a very common mistake that I also remember very well doing a while back...

I love mourning Doves, I get alot of them and White Winged Doves at my feeder. I wish the stick did not overlap the foot and wish the OOF grass was behind the perch. But I like the pose of the bird with sort of an inquisitive look and the background is very nice.
