    Default FINALLY AN OSPREYY!!

Ive trying to see (let alone photograph) and osprey in peru for the last 3 years (since my P&S days, only been in DSLR for a year). and never succed.
For the last two weeks ive been in a family trip in miami/orlando with my father and sister.
I knew this was my chance.
I convinced them to spend one day in the Everglades NP.
and finally was able to photograph an osprey.
    heres the result.

    Nikon D300s ISO 800 Nikkor 300mmF4 @7.1 1/3200
    Manual Exposure, Hand Held.

Hope to hear your critiques & comments.

    Cheers,

    Alfredo

Alfredo, that is a beautiful bird - really nice light on its face and lovely feather detail. I really like the crop - do you think you could lighten the wings and tail up at all?

    Nice capture, good composition.
The sunlit whites have very little or no detail. Extremely difficult to get detail in the highlights and shadows at the same time on this bird with the sun so high in the sky on a sunny day. Either overecast or earlier or later in the day is better.
Shutter speed 1/3200 is not necessary. A slower shutter and lower ISO will yield less noise in the shadows(underwing).

Nice shot. I really like the crop. I'd try a bit of extra recovery on the whites at the wing/body joint and the top of the head, but the body details look very nice. I think you might be able to sharpen a little more as well.

John mentioned a lower ISO for less noise, but I can't see any noticeable noise in the underwing. My experience with a Nikon D90 is that ISO 800 generally has little to no problem with significant noise, so I assume the D300s performs similarly.

Muy bein Alfredo! You have a beautiful banking, in-flight shot here. I like the composition although you could have given the subject a little more room. It would be easy to tone down the whites a little on the side of the body.

Congrats on finally getting your own photo of a osprey ! Other than perhaps some highlights blown a bit, it's a nice image !
