Hello Jim, I like seeing these birds from all over the world. I like this nice smooth as silk bg. I don't

think the feathers on the face are as sharp as the rest of the body but it is a very good image. TFS

Lovely BG Color of the bird and perch . You could have toned down some whites on the back just below the head .

Jim, the colour on this guy is really striking. Good inquisitive pose, and against a killer smooth BG.

Hi, Jim. Love this species! Looks like you had a tough challenge here with shooting angle and/or the pose the bird chose. I'm guessing you didn't want to stop down because of fear of noise if upping the ISO on the 40D (perhaps the only choice given your already marginal shutter speed) but that left you with pretty shallow DOF, which seems to cover the shoulder rather than the eye.

I'm not crazy about the lighter background in this case; I'm guessing maybe some fog rolled through as you were shooting. This always seems to happen just when your target bird lands in my experience

Is this at your buddy's place? Looks like you're getting some great species to your setup. I'll look forward to seeing more.

    Cheers,

Fantastic bird, perch, and BG. I like the pose and glistening plumage. Good comp. I too see that the flank apperas sharper than the head.

P.S. The 40D performs solidly at ISO 800...

Hi, Daniel. I had a 40D until very recently, and I always thought hard about going to 800. It definitely depends on the situation though, so I will agree that it certainly could have been an option to gain more DOF here.

    Cheers,
    Greg
