This is a different individual than the one I posted earlier, but taken at the same location at Estero Lagoon. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the 100-400L plus 1.4 TC with the 1D MKIV and decided to keep photographing with that combo for the better part of 4 days (thanks Artie for the TC and body loaners).

    Canon 1D MKIV + 100-400L + 1.4TC @ 420mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/9, ISO 800, +0.7 EC, handheld, slight crop for comp.

In hindsight I guess I could eliminate the bill's shadow on the belly...

    Daniel:

another nice landing pose, like the full flare and outstretched legs. I normally don't worry about bill shadows, but this one is a candidate for removal.

Sharp, well exposed. In a perfect world, I would prefer the rear wing leading edge not merge into the head as it does, but hard to avoid that with this angled pose.

    Cheers

    Randy

I like the detail and sharpness you captured in this landing image. Well done Daniel!

Daniel, I agreed with Randy's comments. You can't always get what you want, but that's also the fun of it!

I don't mind the shadow on this Daniel, it doesn't detract from the shot. I personally like the angle and don't mid the head intersecting with the wing either. I love the wing position and I think the angle makes this more interesting than it would be with a head on version. The outstretched feet add a lot and the techs are spot on.

Great pose and capture of detail in a white bird. The neck shadow didn't immediatly stand out to me and is minor in my opinion.

Lovely landing pose and nice action shot.

The first thing I wondered about was a slice off the right so wing tips had about same clearance and perhaps adding a touch on left.

I had not noticed the shadow but now that is is mentioned...

    Nicely frozen at 1/200.

Oops, that's a typo on my part. It's 1/2000s. (Fixed in the main text)

Daniel, I like the angle of approach, captured with the outstretched wings and legs. Great detail in the whites.
