Very nice, Artie. Looks like you are having a blast. Loved all those red pouches here. Excellent exposure and whites as usual.

Great shot!!! Orange/Reds look a bit over-saturated concidering the light you had but still an awesome shot!

That's a great scene. Beautiful birds. How high did you have to throw the bait?

    Very cool.

Adding a bit of canvas to the laft and taking out that headless bird on the right would add so much more power to this image.

Glad your trip is amazing. Nice group shot. I like the perspective. I think Alan makes some good suggestions.

I really love this one Artie. It's different and original, with the wide angle point of view and abstract pattern created by the begging pelicans. Very nice. I love how it's almost monochrome and the orange on the throat just jumps out,

Talk about close. This is amazing. I think the colors looks good. I would have to agree on removing the bird's beak on the right...unless you have more of the bird. It's distracting. Looking forward to seeing more.

A very interesting photo! But I agree with Alan's comments, and I have a question. Were you really that close with that 21mm lens, or was very substantial cropping done here?

A fascinating image Arthur, draws one into the action which is sharp and detailed. Nice triangular group composition and would have been nice to have the full bird on the right.

Visually very striking, and as an added bonus you got one reaching even higher than the others to add an extra dimension to the comp.

The one with water dripping out of the open mouth in your blog entry is the bomb!

Man, I just love that grinning idiot symbol. Always have. As for the crop, I think that it is pretty much full frame. You be the judge and let me know what you think. The lens BTW was a 16-35 set at 21 mm with a 1.3X crop body.

Just to confirm, there is nothing that you like about the image? (You agreed with Alan's somewhat negative comment/suggestion about the bird on the right--see below on that, and did not have anything at all positive to say about the image.)

Yeah, I wish that the head of the bird on the right were visible. I think that given the chaos of the situation I did a fairly good job of making order out of it. The huge problem with removing the bird on the right is that it is--as you can see in the cropped image here-- actually biting the wing of the bird in front of it..... At best for me it would be a slop job.

Peter and I did try various crops from the right but whatever we did it upset the compositional balance.

I like the image for the group action - all but the two oblivious birds in the front row are watching bait tossed just above their head. Draw a line from each bill and you'll see where the fish is above the frame. I agree with Alan about taking out the headless bird.

    Hi Artie,

Love those bills pointing like arrows to the sky! Love it. That horizon looks a bit off though?

    kind regards.

No, my apologies Artie. I was got blinded by those orange arrows and was looking at your original pre-post shot. How did you go about correcting the distortion in the horizon?

    kind regards.

Hi Stuart, As described in Digital Basics I used the Ruler Tool and ran it along the far shoreline. Then hit Image/Rotate/Arbitrary (or use a self-created keyboard shortcut to avoid the drop-down menu as I do; mine is Control ?) Then hit OK.

Funny thing is that after doing some work on the image I noticed that I had not drawn the horizon line accurately and that in the image in Pane 1 that my horizon is slightly off. But I decided to leave it as is for now :)

Works for me, the lack of other colours abd just those blazing oranges is brilliant!
