    Default Geese in Flight

Here is another of my attempt at birds in flight. I decided to crop loosely as this is a far shot and I can only extract so much of the details.

    C&C appreciated.

Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) L 30-43"
Shooting Info: February 23, 2011, Canon XSi + EF 300mm f/4L IS USM, f/5.6, 1/800 sec, ISO 200, -0.7 exposure compensation, hand held

Hi Eric. Your foreground bird looks excellent, but the DOF is not enough to pull this off. I would have stopped down more (you probably could get away with an ISO considerably higher).

I agree with Ian's critique. The front bird looks very good though. Also would be nice to see some seperation between the birds. BG looks good, one hot spot along the shoreline.

Front goose looks kind of soft on my monitor if you went to F4 do you think that bird would be savable to have in the picture?

    Thanks for all the comments!

@Ian: You're right, the DOF is really thin to make the second bird come into focus.

@Peter: You've got good eyes for critique. Honestly, I didn't notice the hot spot until you mentioned it. Now that I'm aware of it, it always pulls my eyes away from the bird whenever I look at the picture.

@Cody: Front goose is really soft. I initially wanted to do F4 but I thought that I might loose wing details because of the thin DOF so I decided to go F5.6 for BIFs. Do you think I should have done F4?

I think youre right. especially that back wing would be lost in the bg.
