Gulls are my true nemesis for ID-ing. This one was in SF bay area in January. The pink legs threw me - possibly a juvi herring or glaucous-winged?

    Thanks!

This looks like a late first or early second cycle Glaucous-winged Gull.

I agree on the species, but why second cycle? It looks to me like a first cycle bird with a few new mantle feathers growing in.

I agree it likely is first cycle but I wasn't sure about the bill, which I believe would usually be black still in January.

Thanks for the confirmation guys! At my current skill level, I'm happy enough to get the species right. Some day I'll start going for age.... :-)
