Nice image.
A couple of things would make this image much better. Run an s-curve in Photoshop to give the image some much needed contrast and to remove the hazy look. Also when you sharpen always sharpen the subject and not the entire image. Here the birs looks fine but the grass is oversharpened. Also I would crop some off the left, there is too much dead space behind the bird.

Another way of doing it would be to open your "final unsharpened" version, sharpening it all and then running the history brush over the grasses. The light worked against you here I'm afraid. Dodging the reflections in the eye (which seem to be faintly there) would add some life to the bird. Great subject that I'm hoping to finally get something good on this year.
Daniel,
With most tasks in Photoshop there are always a dozen ways, at least, to do almost anything.
Your method unfortunately requires way more work for no advantage. You are recommending sharpening the whole image, then unsharpening a large portion/most of the image with the history brush (Also this method will sharpen the sky/BG which is a bad idea)
Trust me I have been doing this professionally for awhile, just sharpen what needs to be sharpened. Its much quicker, much simpler and gives you the best results :)
