Reticulated giraffe inhabit the northern, arid country of Kenya and are noted for their beautifully fine coat patterns. I photographed these two in Meru National Park, an exceptionally photogenic area with hardly a tourist in sight (we only saw two other vehicles in the 3 days we were there).
    Late afternoon about 15 mins before sunset, 7D; 100-400 @ 210mm; ISO400; 1/320; f6.3; Manual exposure; Handheld

    Hilary,

Not a lot to say other than stupendous

If really picky the bush around the right hand head could be removed, but I do not mind it .

Hi Hilary, they look like a pair of 'book ends'

The light is nice and gives good definition to the markings, but moving to your right would have given better separation, so the head would not have been in the foliage.

Nice image Hilary. ike that they both gave looks back toward you. As far as a "record" image, I would love to have this as I aint never been there yet . Nice light and exposure. Well done.

Great juxtaposition of the two giraffes Hilary. Great light too.

I would agree that moving right (if possible) would have gotten the right one's head with the sky BG and that IMO is preferable.

Love their patterns and colour. I agree with head position but I know that it's not always possible so it's not a biggy for me TFS

Thank you for all the comments. I have to be honest that I never even noticed the head in the trees as I was focussed on the two giraffes so thank you for being picky … it is the only way we can improve our own self assessment.

Quite right too, perfection may look better but it is rarely natural, leave it as it is

Agree with the head position , but then this is a brilliant piece of timing . The formation is awesome , almost a mirror image ! Awesome shot !

Who knows, had you moved to your right, Hilary, they might have moved and then you would not have had this wonderful result. I like it as is, it's nature after all and not a studio.

Beautiful light and I really like the position of the giraffes.
