Default desert hummingbird dogfight at the feeder

From the same series as the Costa's I posted Monday (who was quite the alpha male around the feeders).

This was the only attempt I got of the dogfight in action during the weekend - and at least they're both in the frame. Would have loved to have been better prepared with a higher ISO and a more stopped-down aperture for greater DOF, but at least I got the aggressor sharp.

    Handheld, 40D + 300L f4 + 1.4x; ISO 400, f5.6 , 1/1000. Cropped slightly top & bottom.Name: hummingbird dogfight-8899.jpg

    Allen,

I really like this image. Not often pictures tell a great story like this. Well executed.

Agree with Sid - like the story telling in this - not generally a fan of images with feeders in them - but when it tells a story like this - I can just about ignore the feeder.
    Nicely executed.

They are some majorly aggressive birds! I've watched one hummer at my friend's house go back and forth to all four sides of their home to stay in charge of all four feeders...absolutely amazing to watch.

Technically this isn't the strongest of images but it is a good storyteller. More ss and stopping further down next time might get you both birds in flight...always something to strive for!
