    Default Gull in Flight

I tried doing BIF this morning and this is what I got.

Would really like to hear your C&C as this is my first try at BIFs. Does the crop work for you? I decided to include the reflection on the ice.

Shooting Info: February 23, 2011, Canon XSi + EF 300mm f/4L IS USM, f/5.6, 1/1000 sec, ISO 200, -0.7 exposure compensation, hand held

Interesting composition w/ the reflection. I am not sure if the crop could be better, perhaps try some different crops and rank order them. I think the bird is a little bit too bright.

    Eric,
Very nice techs and exposure. Unless there is a strong reflections I generally would crop it out. I would crop a bit at the bottom to make it more interesting.

Hi Eric - agree with Sid - Unless a reflection is quite strong generally it is not worth including. So here I would crop some from the bottom giving it more of a pano feel which will also have the added advantage of accentuating the feel of the forward movement.

You have caught him at the right time - flying towards you - as a general rule wings fully up or fully down are the most aesthetically pleasing positions.
Techs look solid and exposure looks good.
    Good show: )

I also would crop the reflection OR take a large chunk off the left side and make this more of a vertical frame with a tiny bit more up top so he doesn't feel so close to the edge. One thing to watch for with these light colored birds over a body of water is that they tend to take on a blue cast. I think you've done really well to control that here.

Love it over the ice. It appears just a tad oversharpened to me, but that's my only nit.

Thanks for the comment Paul. I personally think that I might have over sharpened it too.

love it Eric, really nice colors and i like the reflection on the ice, its nice to see reflections on unexpected surfaces. I like the shape created by the wings and the reflection of the wings.
