    Watched, this "red-Head, slowly inch it's way down the tree, until the bkg was a bit cleaner.

    Like the BKG soft colors. I would take a slice of the tree and added that room behind the bird if possible. A little fill flash would have brightened the bird a little.

    I love this species - nice shot.

    I usually like 1/3 tree, 1/3 bird and 1/3 background. Could you use a wider aperture and bump up shutter - I see you cranked up the ISO. Maybe some levels/curves on body - bird is nice, I love the muted background.

    This looks remarkably like a Cardinal Woodpecker that we have over here.

    IMHO it needs a slight boost.
