Photographed in early February from a tour boat baiting the eagles off the coast of Rausu, Hokkaido, Japan. I suspect this may not everyone's cup of tea, or not many at all, but I really like the mood the image conveys. Well, at least in my head.
Ha, didn't think about the appearance of it coming out of a cloud. That surely would be a shot. No, this is as you surmised sea ice as in the previous image. Loved here that it stretched all the way to the horizon. JR
I hate to say it, but I actually prefer the original, because I love the
'climbing out of the clouds' look, which seems stronger in the first. I also like the greater room to the left in the first.
But, that is one you have to try it I guess to be sure. Sorry for all the work you went through to move it.
Joerg, I too prefer the original with a bit of sharpening applied. Nice outstreached wings. Don't mid the horizon line as it is very subtle. Well done. Looking forward to more from this trip. Well done.

Joerg I have enjoyed your series on this species and this image gives us a yet another view. The pose is very dynamic and reinforces the power and speed of the eagle, well captured. I prefer the first image with a little sharpening as suggested.
Thanks Pieter. I guess the comments re lacking sharpness from you and others arise from the shallow DOF and relatively low shutter speed leaving only the head close to necessary sharpness. That being said I perhaps I should check my new action I applied on this image and ensure that the selective sharpening works correctly after image resize.
