I've waited a long time to get my hippo in amongst the water plants so was really pleased when this one surfaced just when I was photographing a jacana. I have some with the jacana as well, which I may post someday.

    Hilary,

    I am still waiting

Just goes to show how alert you need to be, not perfect light but who cares, it is the moment that counts.

Thanks Ken, yes indeed … being patient is sometimes the hardest thing! No beautiful early morning golden light for me, sadly.

Having the Jacana will be interesting to see here Hilary and perhaps 'add' to the scene nicely.

nice image Hilary - light not the best but love the gaze, the environment and the nip in the ear :)

I am also still waiting, right behind Ken in the line

    Thanks Marc, Steve and Morkel.

Morkel and Ken, if I had found this spot earlier in my trip I would have returned at a better time of day. I think it is quite a good spot to regularly find hippo in the weeds so if either of you are heading to the Mara let me know and I'll let you know the area. Although whether anyone would stake out a spot for the sake of a hippo I'm yet to know.

Morkel, I have some ideas to turn this image (or another in the series) into something a little more interesting but will post in OOTB.

Hilary, when you do, please will you post an update note here, as it would be a shame to miss addition thoughts & ideas.

    Thanks

No problems, I'll put the link to the OOTB posting but I have committed myself to tax and a couple of 'paid' assignments this week so no more processing until the weekend. I'll see how I go!!

Well done Hilary, love the in your face look here. I'm also in line, but a long way back. I have to find a way to get to Africa first . Comp looks good and love the greens he's in.

    Nice Hilary,

You can always have the perfect light but I like how you framed this and the shadows are well detailed. I think this image turned out real well.
