    Default Tampa Bay Spoonbill

One of my Spoonbill's from our trip out to Tampa Bay with James, Artie, Daniel, Randy, Denise and Roman.

Though I will photograph a bird scratching, I don't seem to like them normally, this one I do. Perhaps and expression and the beak in the water.

Wonderful capture, Robert. You have tremendous details here and the behavior really works. It helps that the water is so calm, and I like the way the bird's beak is resting in the water.

Robert, love those colors and details. The water is the perfect color to complement the spoonie. I agree with your comment about scratching, but sometimes it works out as it does in this image. The foot behind the extended neck adds interest IMO. Very nice.

Excellent low angle and pose! Judging by the very wide DOF for f8 and the noise for iso 400 - this must be a significant crop.

No, this is not a significant crop. It is full frame.

That's very interesting! In order to get about 60cm DOF with 1200 mm lens at f8 as you got in here you have to be at least 50 meters away from the bird. Noise at the BG is very high for iso 400....I guess something is wrong in my calculations...

Excellent IQ and DOF with a very interesting pose. I like the good eye contact which is some times missing with birds scratching and love the low angle.

    Robert:

A very effective image, and I think that as Pieter said, it is the good eye contact that lets the scratching work!

    Excellent shooting angle, colors.

Glad the morning was productive for you!

    Cheers

Great capture. The low angle and perfect head angle really make the image. Well, and the fantastic exposure, DOF and sharpness. I presume you used a 600mm with a 2x TC or did you really buy/borrow/steal a 1200mm lens?
