Had a good day shooting today. Went looking for a fox today after striking out Thurs. Took my 11 yr old with me so we both got our first fox in camera. All the trips I have made to Yellowstone I never got a glimpse, today It came together here in WA. Will be posting a few as I process them, hope you don't get bored.

    Todd,

Well done on finding one at last.

It is a pity that it is squinting because off the sun, the tail looks strange (movement blur?)

Thanks Ken. Yeah, it was quite bright for a change. I have quite a few to go through so we'll see what I come up with. I think the tail is more dof related as I was @ 1/5000, did not want to stop down any further due to the bg.

Like the lighting here Todd, even if this fox didn't, squinting like it needed some sunglasses.

Hi Todd, I like the positioning of the head against the dark BG, really makes the ears pop...nice position of the fox..neat shot.

DOF works well given the BG and the sharpness you got upfront
nice light and exposure, squinting pose is actually neat :)

He looks in fine condition Todd, and nice to see these close-up.

You have handled the various lighting conditions very well, snow conditions can be tricky at the best of times, as the snow often fouls the metering system. Did you meter off the snow?

Although looking on the laptop (not always ideal), the fox to me looks a tad washed out in it's vibrance of colour, remebering and seeing other similar posts of this animal, so i took the liberty of tweaking it, but hesitant about the outcome, plus I took out the leaf (?) just touching his tail. Let me know what you think

BTW todd, blue sky here -7 in the village.

Steve, repost looks good but not true to the colors of this particular fox. I was suprised at how washed out/pale it was myself. In the shaded areas the colors popped a bit more of course. Will definetly evict the leaf, nice to have other eyes to see what we overlook in our own images . Enjoy the cold and clear skies, looks like it may be Fri before I head up to the Hawk Owl.

Hi Todd, no worries, just a tought based on first impression, but guess it was all down to the bright conditions

Good luck withe the Hawk owl, nice to see other avenues of exploring, is he/she quite comfortable about your presence?

Unfortunately yes on the comfortableness, it's the age old story in the national parks where people like to feed the wild ones. There has been an increasing problem with that. This fox was off and away from the road a bit, but when enough cars stopped (hazard of the big lenses) to see what and where I was going the fox came at one point to the road looking for a handout. The lady from Pennsylvania doing the feeding informed me that she did not care if it was a fine for feeding and that no one had a photo of her feeding w/lic #, when I informed her that "I DO" she quit and left. I was very polite .

Forgot to mention, metered off snow or in the cases with no snow present metered off neutral element in same light. I am normally a spot meter kind of guy (since film days).

I am liking all these fox images, they are very photogenic. I quite like the squint, adds a different look and feel to the image. I thought the OP was a bit washed out but you have explained that well.

I do like the red Steve brought out in the repost Todd.

Strong light really accentuated the snow texture and perfect angle with the fox lead to no dark shadows on him.

Great first Todd, like Steve's version, good reds and a little darker. Pity the eye's on this one but I am sure you have more TFS
