    Hi P

I shoot mostly wildlife/landscape in Africa and I have the 600 and 200- 400mm given the choice to change I would not , I find the 600 razor sharp and invaluable for raptors or compressing landscapes... yes the 200-400mm maynot be the sharpest lens at the 400mm under certain conditions ...but once you know its shortfalls you can work around it ... I have created some of my best images using 200-400mm it is nearly always the first lens of choice I pick up for mammal images..

    I use D3 D3s as bodies..

I also shoot with both the 600 and 200-400 with D3s and D700. I would not give up the reach with the 600 especially with 1.4 tc as it is incredibly sharp either way and the 850mm the tc gives is great reach. The 200-400 is limited as the distance to subject increases, but as Peter said if you know its limitations it can still be an excellent lens. I can also hand hold the 200-400 which helps.

    I also use the 600mm & the 200-400mm. Love the 200-400!

    I use other combo...
    600 with/without 1.4TC
    300 with/without 1.4TC
I find it better than with a 200-400 (never used version2) but less flexible.
