    Default Springbok Awakening

Staying with images of sweet golden Kalahari light...

We spent the first moments of this particular day photographing a herd of springbok gazelle starting their morning graze amongst a "forest" of dead and living camelthorn acacia trees in the dry Nossob riverbed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Two of the bucks were chasing each other around for a moment, and I managed to capture this shot. I had to crop off the leading one as I didn't fit him into the frame.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM
    f5.0 @ 1/2500 SS @ ISO-1250
I was on auto-ISO to ensure I get sufficient shutter speed for the action

Think I prefer this one to one I think you posted a while back? I think the light and content is far better.

I thought I'd seen this before but it may have been another in the same series or posted elsewhere? Love the light and the dust. Lots of activity to keep the viewer's interest up. Makes me want to be there.

Great sighting Morkel. Love the play of light and shadows here. I remeber the previous post as well, like them both. I have been useing auto iso with the hawk owl I have been posting in avian. Well done.

    Morkel,

I like the action! Comp is a bit unorthodox with the tree and main subject centralized. Have you tried lowering the contrast?

    thanks for the feedback, folks

Chas - I have better compositions with regards to the tree, but without the action. I am going to upload another one later today for comparison. I left it like this because like I said, the front-runner was cut off to the far LHS of the frame and I cropped him out. I also left the RHS because I wanted to show the others in the background to the right of the tree.

The golden dappled light shining through + the billowing dust in this image is superb Morkel, just wish that the tree wasn't quite so central, but understand your reasons.

Ok Morkel, I finally got to this one and prefer it over the second post. The action makes the image and the back-lighting is well presented.
