    Default Sandgrouse take-off

I place my camera vertically for this image as these sandgrouse would always jump out of the frame when taking off. This way I didn't clip the wings.

I like the action here - the effort to get into flight from been in water is quite something. I also quite like the three parts of the image other than the bird - foreground water, rock middle and green backgrond. seems to be balanced.

Great action captured. The water make this shot. Subject is sharp and well exposed. Well done Vivaldo

Well learned lesson by turning the camera vertically after a few attempts. Techs look good. Good timing, very sharp as posted, and nice water splashing action. I do like the vertical comp, but would have preferred less at the bottom (about half the water), and more on top. On your original do you have such canvas to re-crop?

Well done, Vivaldo. Great illustration of the soaked breast feathers used to transport water back to the chicks in the nest. Agree with Dan's suggestion - even if no canvas to add above , I think cropping from below, to eliminate all but the reflection of the legs, improves the image.

Vivaldo, very nice action frozen. Good bird angle too. I was facing the same issue with gull take offs. I decided to use the bottom AF point and that worked well.

Beautiul bird, beautiful action, what more could you need

This is a shot I have always wanted and never got, probably due to the difficulty.

Going to Etosha in June so who knows?

    Agree on the crop suggestion.

Good repost Vivaldo, and very well timed for the take off. The trailing water adds so much to the image.

Love the repost Vivaldo, nice sharp image and great action captured, the splash is fantastic.
Tried this shot for three mornings and failed so I know the skill required
Was this in Kgalagadi and if so which waterhole?

Thanks again for comments. Pieter this was taken in Mabuasehube. I cannot remember the waterholes name but it was the first waterhole when you enter the park from the Botswana side.
