Getting these guys clear of brush and other vegetation blocking their view is a challenge in itself (just locating them is difficult because of their cryptic coloration). Anyway a busy background is something I can live with. Comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill

William, you explained the BG, the image is beautiful, sharp and detailed. I am not that familiar with this bird so I am not sure about the coloration. I like the low perspective.

William, this one and the one in avian are two of a kind. Utterly distinct and each good in their own right. I am curious to know *if* negative clarity on the BG of this might help provide a little more separation. If I may ask, about how many hours are you in the field each day and are you going to the same location?

This is a super bittern shot. A busy background is what this species is all about, so I don't mind it as much as I might with a different bird. The high ISO didn't hurt here as much as it did in your Avian post. Great detail, ha. Well done - your patience has been rewarded.

I love these birds and this is a wonderful picture of one - captures perfectly how well they hide in plain sight, while still giving you a really good, detailed view of the bird if you look closely...
