I seem to be the worst identifier of birds especially warblers and sparows. I took this this afternoon at the Pelican Island NWR just north of Vero Beach, Fl and I have no clue ehat it is, but I brt you people do. Thanks before hand for the help.
Hi Mac- Don't feel bad- warblers are tough particularly when they are not in breeding plumage.
Several things point to this being a Prairie Warbler. The main feature shown here is the heavy streaks along the side and the dark patch at the side of the neck. My hunch would be that this is a first year bird born in 2010.
Agreed, it's Prairie Warbler. Two marks to look for up front when sorting out warblers are breast streaks (or lack thereof) and wing bars (or lack thereof). This can help whittle down your contenders very quickly.
Thanks for the ID on this bird. I agree having looked at at least two bird books that this is inded a Pairie Warbler. Thanks again, maybe with your advise I can tell them myself.
