    I like the composition, though there is a green cast on the birds black feathers?

    Hi Ian - I think the green is just the sheen on the feathers which you have captured well.
    Like the pose and the clear RED eye which is really necessary with these guys, whites look good and techs look solid.
    A little tight at the top for my personal tastes.
    Good show :)

    Thanks. Yes, that greenish color is the natural irridescence of these birds. I agree, maybe a bit tight on top. It's about time I learned how to add real-estate.

    Hi Ian. Adding real estate easy with CS5. Heres how in case you don't know;
    Image/Canvas Size/ click on arrow opposite the side you want to expand/increase width or height/click OK/use the rectangle tool to select the new area- overlap the original a few pixels/Edit/Fill/Use: Content-Aware/click OK. Use clone-stamp tool for touch ups if needed. regards~Bill

    Thanks, Bill. I'm at work and don't have the original of this one with me, but tried your technique on another that I took at lunch time. It worked perfectly and quickly! I didn't realize it was so easy!

    Ian. Indeed it worked well! I like this version's black back feathers much better, whatever you did toned down the glare, which I considered a problem.
    If you know what the polygonal lasso tool is you can use it to select an area that you want removed from an image by tracing around it (you don't have to be precise) and then apply the content-aware fill, followed by the clone-stamp tool for touch ups if you need it. regards~Bill

    Ian, very nice post. I like the repost better with the additional canvas. The legs appear more light in the repost. As for the black feathers on the back, both posts are nice, but I felt you had more detail in the original post. The eye seems to have more pop in the OP as well. For what it is worth.

    I prefer the second version, however the white feathers appears to be much whiter near the top of the legs than in the original. In the original, they are toned down, and can see a reflection of the water ripple.
