    Default Greetings... From Indiana!

    Greetings everyone,

I'm an avid birder and bird photographer in Indiana, but sadly, find myself without as much time to devote to it as I'd like. I'm a second year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine, and have been actively birding and into photography for about seven years now. I shoot with various Canon equipment, with my main birding outfit being a 7D and 600 f/4 IS (which I recently traded a 500 IS plus cash for). This forum seems like a great place to get involved with, even with my limited time!

Ryan, welcome to BPN! We're so happy you've joined our family. I can't imagine how you balance photography and med school but good for you for trying! Wow!

We'd love to help you make the most of your time in the Eager to Learn forum if you feel that's where you fit in best skill-wise. Lots of good information there to help make the most of your time in the field and in post-processing.

    Hi Ryan:

Welcome to BPN. Glad you have managed to find some time to squeeze in some photography. I think you'll study even better after you've had a little time out with nature. It's amazing how much more positive we are after being out witnessing all that nature has to offer.

You sure have some pretty nice equipment. I will be looking forward to seeing some of your work!

Thanks, ladies. I guess you just have to make priorities! We've got a couple nice areas within about 20 minutes that usually provide some nice photographic opportunities. Last year was definitely better as much of the former grassland type area has been sold off and is now agricultural. Major bummer there. I can usually slip away for a couple hours in the afternoon to do some birding.

Regarding my equipment--I had a full academic scholarship for college, and I also worked full time. That meant I had quite a bit of spending money. Sadly, there's no time to work, so no more new toys for now, but I guess I'll just have to make the 600 work. ;-)

I forgot to mention that my friend and Ali are coming down to florida in three weeks for spring break. It's a birding trip. He exclusively birds, so no photos for him, butthat won't stop me.

We're planning a stop at Fort De Soto. Any specific recommendations for the park? I was there last July and just kind of wandered aimlessly, but got some good birds.
Also, any other must stop places?
