pose, wing position and eye contact are excellent, but the bird is pretty soft and the BG looks grainy.

Bird a bit soft. Wing and pose very good.
Just a super pose Myer! Laptop processing can lead to soft images. I'd like to see a repost after processing on your desktop.
Upcoming Workshops: Bosque del Apache 2019, Ecuador 2020 (details coming soon)

Hi Myer, agree with the above comments, played around with it a little in PS. This shot has HUGE potential.
Gary.
Others have pointed out the bird is a bit soft.
Congrats on the capture. I have a devil of a time with moving songbirds. Were you manually focused at a set distance or did you try to get an autofocus point on him?
Thanks everyone for their suggestions I am going to work on the image now that I am back home and have the full potential of LR and PS I only use my laptop on trips to download images and preview them
Jeff
I was manually focused on a set point between perches that Alan Murphy set up and fired with a hand held trigger as soon as the bird leaped. I got a lot of half birds, but it was an interesting experience. You need a fast camera. My D3s fires at 9 fps but I missed a lot of shots
nice pose. these type of shots are always a hit and miss affair,
agree with Doug.
