This is my first photo post so I hope I did it right. Doug Brown encouraged me to start doing this and I would appreciate any feedback on how to make my photos better.

Very sweet image sandra. The sharpness and exposure are right on. Well done.

The framing and comp are also nice. The background is fairly clean but some cleanup would even make it better.

I would recommend cleaning up the pupil, maybe just a little darkening to make it more defined.

I thought that quetzal looked familiar! Welcome Sandy! I'll be interested to see what people have to say about your photo of this magnificent bird. I agree with Robert's suggestion about the pupil.

Well I just never get tired of seeing this species. Having spent a fair bit of time with them myself I know how tough it can be to get a decent shooting angle. Definitely this one is a bit steep. I would also do some work on the "steel eye" look of this image.

A beautiful bird, nicely framed. As you say, resplendent!! A little work on the eye is definitely required to make it perfect.

Fabulous bird and overall nice image.
It appears that eye problem may have been caused by flash.Would it be possible to use higher ISO to eliminate the need for flash.
Looks like might have been turning head at moment of shutter release so could try burst mode to get a selection of images to choose from.

Welcome, Sandra! Beautiful bird, colors and head angle. I've never seen this species but it seems very hard to get a clean BG. Keep them coming!
