    Common Pauraque

    Workshop: Roma, TX

    D3, 600, ISO 800, f8, 1/250, Flash as Main-manual exposure.
Probably should be resting after each day of workshop activities, but I cannot resist going out at night and playing with these South Texas specialities :-) Cropped from horizontal. Red eye photoshopped.

This is great! How did you manage to photograph it at exactly the right time? Assuming you used flash as main light. Thanks mate. :)

What a Roman (Texas) holiday you're having, Alan. What a night life. Your image seems flooded with light; it seems to have been taken during the day; how did you get your flash to cast so much light?

    Hey Akos,

The birds were landing and taking off (catching bugs) under a large flood light. I was able to pre-focus manually and raise the lens. I then waited untill they took off and fired.

    Hey Craig,

I set my flash to 1/16th power using a better beamer, I was able to get the correct exposure with some light fall off hitting the background. The rest was bringing out the best of the image in post processing. Thanks.

incredible Alan. So many of your shots are like watching a magic show. It's fun watching and thinking "how'd he do that!" Great wings up pose here and perfect use of flash.

Incredible image Allan love the fanned tail and perfect flight pose. The feather detail is remarkable for flash.
