Image from a trip to the Alligator Farm yesterday. Watched this display and small squabble for some time, but the background and as seen, the foreground, didn't present itself as I had wished. Any and all suggestions, advice or opinions greatly appreciated. Thank you for looking.

Nice image Jack! lots of nice detail here. exposure looks great. I'm certainly no expert , but i'd crop this bird more- keep him centered and crop out the top and bottom parts so you don't get all the bird poop...you could even crop the legs right at the leg joint. Let's see what the pros say..

Love the pose and the exposure, will leave the rest to others.

This is a great photo in terms of exposure and pose but the BG/FG and associated crap (pun intended) would be extremely difficult to clean up, even for a PS maven. My recommendation would be to spend your time trying to catch the egret in a similar pose. In the field, trying to make another photo, would be infinitely more satisfying than trying to fix this photo. JMHO

Thank you all for the the critique, that was just the type of information I was looking for. Definately not a PS maven for sure, so no point in tackeling this one, but at least I now know what a maven is now (I had to look it up, but I was pretty sure I wasn't one before I did :D).

    Jack,

Of course you were trying to get the display here and you did well with little clutter blocking the bird, but remember to go for tight close-ups. This bird has some colorful lores and a tight head shot is an alternate composition.

Hi Jack You got the best possible image from your position A fantastic looking bird they only have those colors for a few days !!!

Do agree with making a full image display and you managed to minimize the clutter as much as possible Later going for a full head shot would have been fun !!! At the Farm and places like it is all about isolation !!!

Here is an attempt with a big crop on the same subject...seems pretty focused on the task at hand to say the least.
