    Here is another picture of a Downy Woodpecker. This is a little female. Comments are appreciated.

    Hi Dave. Is that suet or stuff from the tree on the bill? The bird could stand a bit more sharpening and could also go a little brighter IMO. I might tone down the bright part of the BG behind the bird. From a composition standpoint I would crop some off the top and right; those parts of the image don't add anything visually (and may in fact detract from the image).

    That is a little suet on the birds beak. We have been trying to attract woodpecker into our yard by spreading suet on some of the trees around our yard. So far we have gone from having an occasional red-bellied in our yard to having woodpeckers in the yard on a regular basis. The Downys are new this year and have we have a least two pairs visiting several times a day. We even had a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers in the yard late last week. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them.:
