Default Reflectors vs Flash/Better Beamer in Bird Photography

I was thinking about the use of reflectors in bird photography versus using a flash.

It seems to me like if you know where the perch of the bird is why not use one? Have people used reflectors with any success instead of a flash to achieve fill lighting? Or are there any obvious pitfalls to their use. My sense is that a reflector does not suffer from the High Speed Flash power penalty that a flash suffers. Reflectors of course need to be oriented/guided, and need to be properly secured from breeze, I guess they could also spook a bird, but wouldn't a flash do the same?

If you are light to reflect, the reflectors are close enough to be affective while not obstructing your subjects routes to and from your perch, heck ya.
All of the above can be difficult.

Flash as fill is not very distracting in my experience, flash as main light is another story.
