I don't have all the facts, that is, I couldn't say whether the speed is 150 km/h or what, but my impression is that a small passerine taking off is a fast-moving object. They explode off the perch. A duck flying by is slow by comparison. The D3S is the right tool to capture that action, but only if one takes full advantage of the high-ISO capability. I wouldn't have walked into that situation at ISO 800 and f5.6, but that's just me. Maybe you had other goals. In any case, keep the good shots coming; as a fellow user of the D3S and the 600 mm lens, I'll be interested in everything you put up here.
Thanks guys for suggestions and comments apprecaited. I will try shooting at higher on my next outing. I added more sharpening to this image and reposted. it looks sharp to my eye, what do you think?
Still looks soft. I don't think you can make a soft image look sharp by sharpening. It will just look sharpened. Dumay's image is sharp and I am sure you can see the difference.
