    Default White Ibis

We finally got an overcast afternoon without storms, so I headed to the wetlands to see what I might find. What better test than a white bird. As advertised, the softer lighting helped retain detail in the white feathers without blocking out the shadows. We don't get conditions like this often in central Florida. I'd like feedback particularly on cropping - right now, the image was cropped in width only to attain 11x14 proportions. The birds eye falls on the ROT, but the bird is centered. Suggestions are welcome

Technical data: Canon 450D, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM, 210 mm focal length, ISO 400, manual exposure, f/5.6, 1/500 sec

Exposure looks pretty good Dawn. I might drop overall exposure a bit. About composition; I'd use a basic rule of thirds: bird occupying the left 2/3rds. Another thing about overcast, as long as it holds up you can shoot all day. The position of the sun, since you often can't see where it is anyway, doesn't matter that much.
    See any anhingas?. regards~Bill

Dawn-nice head angle and detail in the bird. I like seeing the environment and that BG is complimentary. Agree with Bill on the composition. Thanks for sharing. Alex

New cropping as suggested. I did see Anhingas, but not a single one with their wings open in the 5 hours I was shooting.

I like the recrop, Dawn...nice work! I'd also be tempted to take out a little of the foliage right at the bottom right corner now so it doesn't look so forced there. Also, next time, give it a little more room below the feet - they are really close to the edge of the frame and a little more room never hurts - you can always crop it later if you want to!

I like the exposure of the bird. Might add a bit of blue saturation to the BG or darken it a bit to play off the light colored bird.

Hi Dawn. Good job with this one. You did well with those whites. I prefer the crop (although possibly just a tad too tight at the tail end). I would be tempted to try and clone out that tall weed in the right FG and possibly the one in the water in front of his beak.

Nice one Dawn. I prefer the crop of your repost. I like the habitat as shown but mught clone out the brownish spot on the neck.
