This image was under exposed. I also rotated it 90 deg. to the right. The bird was actually looking down the branch into a tray feeder. I corrected exposure in ACR. Painted over some hot spots in the BG, cloned a branch from the left side and ran NR on BG. Levels, curves and sharpen on bird. Nice Peter! I think the composition is good with his face at the appropriate ROT spot. Perhaps a bit more DOF would help to bring the tip of the tail in line with the rest of him (or, possibly, moving yourself a bit around to the left to put him more parallel to your sensor). I think I may be seeing a bit of an oversharpening halo.
Beautiful colours on this cowbird Peter. really nice, plain, non-distracting BG. Personally I would not have rotated the bird. It's whole posture will be determined by its orientation- for example, see how far apart its legs are. I will admit that it looks fairly natural "standing up" but there's something not quite right. I would not have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned this!
Hi Peter - lots to like here - but something did not look quite right - could not put my finger on it until I went back and reread your info.
I would not have rotated - but lots to like here....
Sharp and BG colours offset the bird quite nicely - a little tight on the bottom perhaps??
I do agree with the others about the orientation...it's got an odd angle now but...still a very nice image. More detail in that tail would be nice but you did a very nice job in pp in cleaning up that BG. Nice work!
