I like the great timing and wings-down position. Sharpness is excellent in the head and body but suffers from a bit of motion blur everywhere else on the bird. Knowing the high-ISO prowess of the D3s I would have pushed the ISO to 1600 or even 3200 to get more shutter speed. You've got good detail in the blacks of the head and have controlled the reds nicely. Overall an image to be proud of!

That's a wow shot to my eyes.

I'm not seeing the motion blur Doug mentions and wonder if perhaps some fine detail was lost in compression.

Fabulous bird, beautifully captured take-off. Love the pose and colors, nicely exposed. I don't mind the bit of motion blur in the wings; maybe a little bit in a few spots but not enough to hurt this wonderful image IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible technique, I still am wondering how to do this type of shot. The auto focus technique must be immaculate.

Hi Vivaldo, excellent shot, beautiful bird; Doug's right, in bright light ISO 3200 on the D3S is not a problem; you're simply not going to get appreciable amounts of noise. I think I know what this shot would have looked like at 1/8000--even sharper.

Thanks for all great comments. I think that a little blur is acceptable and personally always liked it as it gives the subject some motion. I do agree that a higher ISO could have also worked nicely and will try remember that the next time I go out shooting
