    Default Alvord desert

    Hi All,

Have any of you done any birding/bird photography in the Alvord desert in SE Oregon? I am looking for some new places to explore and this area looked like it would have promise in the spring and fall.

    Default Great Place for Landscapes

It's been over five years since i have been up that way though I doubt it has changed much. I'm not sure about the bird photography but the landscape photography is superb. The only thing I remember about the bird life was that there were some waterfowl on Mann Lake and some Yellow headed blackbirds in the sage around the lake. There is a nice hot springs right on the side of the road leading into the the desert. it has a ladder you climb down to get to the water.
This area is very isolated. So make sure your vehicle has plenty of gas and is in good shape. Be sure that you have plenty of water, provisions and make sure someone knows you itinerary.
Let us know if you go. it's a beautiful area. the Steen Mountains are right there and are a great trip too.
