Default Hermit Thrush on the snow.

Another image of this overwintering individual that I created last weekend. When on the ground it was usually in a small dip below the suet feeder, but I here I was rewarded when it came up higher onto the fresh snow for a full body view. Part of a dark tree trunk was removed in ULC during post-processing.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, ~85% FF.

Nice exposure Daniel. Good detail and nice handling of the snow. Comp looks good as well.

    Daniel:

I agree with Todd, like the handling of the snow. Enough texture to define the snow, but not going gray from underexposure.

Attractive subject, well placed in the frame.

    Cheers

When I look at this one, I just can't stop thinking of the last one you posted. There is nothing wrong with this one but that one rocked.

Daniel you have this small birds in the snow thing nailed. Great photo. At 85% FF you must be close to the subject? The exposure for the whites is great. As others have said you still have detail.

Dan, as mentioned above, great exposure control and details in the snow. Lovely plumage detail too!

Great photo with exposure control associated with the snow.
Amazed at a Hermit Thrush in Canada in winter!
