Getting away from the finches, here is the male Red-winged Parrot. I have been trying a long time to get a decent shot of this stunning species. I was just sitting in low shrubbery and waiting for anything to come within shooting distance when this landed about 6 meters away and obligingly gave me several angles as it fed on the berries of the shrub it landed in.

Wicked bird, wicked pose. Is the top of the head more CYAN than the rest of the head?

Thanks Colin. I was worried about the apparent lack of detail in that area....

Colin -I saw this species for the first time six months ago and was taken back by the color of these things.

Nice pose - you have seen some great species on your recent trip!

You did a great job with this bird. The colors look great and the bird is nice and sharp. The branches do not really distract here and your bird is perfectly placed in the frame. Your choice of crops really makes this capture work.

    Colin:

A very striking fellow, and the pose shows a lot of his different colors.
    Good use of flash.

In a perfect world, I wish the background was a bit simpler, but well done!

    Cheers
